Roundtable on India-US Partnership on Technology and Finance for Climate Action

On the sidelines of #ClimateWeek2024, USISPF, in partnership with  Consulate General of India, New York and ReNew hosted a roundtable on “India-US Partnership on Technology and Finance for Climate Action.”

 The discussion featured Consul General Binaya Pradhan, Secretary John Kerry, former U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Enoh T. Ebong, Director Enoh T. Ebong, Richard Verma, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resource, Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary Geoffrey Pyatt at Department of State and Sumant Sinha, Chairman and CEO of ReNew. At the roundtable, our dignitaries launched the report ‘Strengthening India-U.S. Relation on Climate Action’. Both US and India remain committed to climate action, building a green economy, and strengthening the energy partnership with a concerted effort to increase research and development, deployment of renewables, skilling, and enhanced public-private partnership to create a sustainable future for posterity.

USISPF was honored to host the Hon. Min Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Houston, TX

USISPF co-hosted the US-India Energy Roundtable on the sidelines of Gastech Event 2024. Minister Puri emphasized the importance of the energy partnership between Washington and New Delhi and the growing synergy between the two in creating a clean energy economy.

Minister Puri spoke about the growth in the bilateral hydrocarbon trade, which reached a figure of $13.6 bn in 2023-24, as the U.S. is India’s 6th largest energy trade partner with a hydrocarbon trade of $2.43 bn (in 2 months of FY 2024-25 itself).

The discussion underscored the importance of stable energy policies, particularly regarding gas inclusion in GST and biofuel targets, and emphasized the potential for green hydrogen and ammonia projects. Ahead of #ClimateWeekNYC2024, the burgeoning momentum of the deep energy partnership, especially through initiatives like the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) underscores the commitment of both democracies to enhancing energy trade and strengthening energy security. We were honored to host Ms. Smriti Z Irani at our office in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Irani, a former Union Cabinet Minister of India spoke to USISPF members and touched on issues pertaining to women’s economic empowerment.

For India to achieve its goal of being a $5 trillion economy, we need to bridge the gaps as gender parity is a foremost priority. Ms. Irani touched on the work her ministries engaged in during her time in government, across healthcare, education, and building a safe and equitable world for women in India.

Ms. Irani laid out the progress made over the last decade and outlined her vision toward a more egalitarian workforce, with increased representation of women in both the services sector and the manufacturing sector, as the government’s PLI schemes seek to boost India’s manufacturing competitiveness.

The roundtable brought together over 30 CEOs, key policymakers, industry representatives, and thought leaders to explore strategies for driving the bio-economy growth. Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities across sectors, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to position India as a global leader in biotechnology. Key interventions and strategic ideas were discussed to advance the sector in light of current geopolitical developments. The dialogue highlighted the benefits of collaborative efforts in advancing the bio-economy and emphasized the importance of the Bio-E3 policy in driving the growth of the biotech industry.

The US-India Hydrogen Task Force session at #ICGH2024

It focused on advancing the hydrogen economy, emphasizing safety through a Centre for Hydrogen Safety and global testing standards. USISPF serves as the secretariat for the US-India Hydrogen Task Force. Discussions stressed knowledge exchange in data collection, skill development, and workforce certification for the hydrogen sector.

Participants explored hydrogen’s role in ammonia production, hydrogen ICE technologies, and supply chain security. They also highlighted circularity, end-of-life management, and maximizing local community benefits through safety and best practices during the hydrogen transition.

The first episode explored “The Quad: Looking Forward” on the 20th anniversary of the grouping. The Quad arose from a nebulous grouping focused on catering to relief work in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami to now being, a grouping of a $35 trillion dollar set of economics, dedicated to security cooperation, multilateral diplomacy, and economic relief within the Indo-Pacific region. Our webinar featured four experts representing four different Quad countries.
